A very important part of baby-hood!

What do you do when your baby is teething? So far, Patrick hates teething rings. He is addicted to his pacifier...I'm using Baby Orajel Naturals (due to the benzocaine issues), which is working. I'm also using Tylenol if he seems really painful. I'm surprised at how many people suggested putting booze in my baby's mouth!

The old remedy for teething, colicy or fussy babies was putting 1/2 an ounce of whiskey in their bottle- We were discussing this with one of the girls neonatologists and figured out it is the mass equivalent of TEN SHOTS to an average sized adult! Shocked

Lol that's crazy!

We used herbal teething powders, calpol, Baltic amber teething anklets and lots of cuddles and if still no better we used teething gel. Teething sucks Sad William seems to struggle to cut teeth, he still only has 4 and until 12 months had none at all!

1/2 and ounce? Really?! That's a lot! When alcohol was used for teething here, it was just rubbing a little directly on their gums not give it to a child to actually drink!

Anyway, we use teething gel. Other things that settle LO's gums are cold things like yoghurt or frozen grapes.

I'm stuck with little things since Patrick isn't eating any solids yet. He is JUST NOW getting the hang of putting things in his mouth, but it's mostly his bibs/burp rags. Solid objects he has a hard time with.
Alien_babe, what kind of gel do you use?

Only just got this as it didn't come up with new posts for some reason.

Anyway, can't think of the name of the gel right now as it's in LO's room, I'll grab it tomorrow and let you know. Hopefully you'll be able to get it across the pond as I'm a UK member.

As you're LO has started chewing on cloths have you tried putting a cloth in the freezer? Keep two cloths for teething, keep one in the freezer (don't wet them) while he chews on one and then swap when needed.

Something else that helped us was a teething dummy (pacifier). I've never given LO a conventional dummy but this was a god send: Tommy Tippee Gummy Teethers

You can spread teething gel on them before popping into LO's mouth for a more even coverage. There's two in a pack, one is for the first teeth, the second has a collapsible centre for the front 4 to soothe the gum on either side. (i.e. stage 1 and stage 2)

They're brilliant for LOs who don't quite get the whole holding things in their mouth. And my LO still chews on his (he's 13 months) by holding an edge in his mouth and chews where he needs it.

Love Tommee Tippee, those are the bottles we use. I'll have to check on the pacifiers though, the TT ones I have makes Patrick gag. Sad

Those teething pacifiers are shaped like gum shields so they don't go near the throat or any part of the mouth other than gums.

The teething gel I use is Dentinox. It's essentially a local anaesthetic that numbs the gum quickly and although it smells quite medical, LO seems to like the taste. He ends up sucking it off my finger and won't let me get it on his gums, which is why I got the teething pacifiers, for easier application.

Here's a link to it being sold on Amazon (should ship to US)
